The twins were born!  Two girls, born Monday 5/25/09 at 9:09am and 9:13am.  They both weighed 6 lbs (one was just shy of 6, but close), and they were both 18 inches.  Both mom and babies are doing very good.

Sue and the twins are currently at the hospital, and plan on getting home on Wednesday.  They’re staying at Logan Regional Hospital in the Women’s Center.  You’re welcome to call Sue at (435) 716-5376, I’m sure she’d love to hear from you.

So here’s the quick delivery story (ok, it’s longer than I expected, scroll down to see pictures and videos)…as some of you know, each child Sue delivers comes quicker than the previous.  Our last child, Kara was born 20 minutes after getting to the hospital (contractions were about 10 mins. apart when we decided to leave, 5 minutes later we were at the hospital, and 20 mins. later she delivered).  So…we wanted to be sure we were on-time…after about 12 hours of light labor, we got to the hospital in Logan Sunday night at midnight (Monday morning).

Soon after checking  us in they gave Sue an epideral, which we were told could slow down the contractions (this is the first real epideral she’s had, but they suggested it with twins in case of an emergency c-section if problems arose)…they weren’t kidding.  After a long morning either hoping the contractions would increase, or trying to get some sleep when they didn’t…the doctors/nurses suggested giving Sue Pitocin.  That worked perfectly, and after a short time it was time to move to the OR (twins are delivered in the OR in case of an emergency c-section).

Soon after preping in the OR the twins were born, naturally!  Sue did a great job!  In fact the doctor and nurses kept commenting that Sue was an example twin delievery.  She did a great job and the twins did a great job!  The twins came out with no problem, healthy and strong.

We learned that identical twins are twins that share the same placenta, which ours did.  Twin B came out with a small bruise on her face, but by that evening the bruise looked pretty good.  That was bad news for us, because now they are harder to tell apart.

We’re still trying to think of names and we’ll let you know once we decide.  We’re also talking about painting finger nails so we can tell them apart…it’s already getting hard to (we’ve noticed one has chubbier cheeks than the other and they have a slight difference in skin tone, we think this may be due to the delivery).

The other 5 kids love the twins…we all went to see Sue last night and they all kept taking turns holding them.  Kara (our youngest, almost 2), was getting mad when we took one of the twins away from her.  She would also get mad at the other kids if they got too close to her holding one of them.  Enjoy these pictures/videos (click to enlarge):
